Latest Ford Fusion Recall: 2010 Editions Have Trouble Again

In the latest Ford Fusion Recall, 2010 models were recalled due to issues with park rod guide and manual recliners posting safety threats.

Here are more details about the two recalls that were conducted for 2010 Fusion, covering the defects, cause for the problem, and the proposed solution.

Recall Due to Defective Park Rod Guide

Ford Motors recalled some of the 2010 Ford Fusion vehicles that were manufactured between February 27 and March 26, 2010 due to the improper installation of park rod guide retention pin.

Such an improper installation does not meet the safety requirements (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 114).

The consequence of such an issue is that when the car is parked without engaging the park pawl or without applying park brake, there may be some unexpected movements thus leading to vehicle crash. This safety recall started on May 28, 2010.

Ford has already notified the owners as well as dealers regarding the problem and they will get it solved free of charge.

Recall Due to Problem with Manual Recliners

The manual recliners in the front seats of some of the 2010 Fusion vehicles did not meet the safety standard requirements. The recliner gear plate was out of the specified dimensions thus leading to limited pawl for the gear tooth engagement. In case of accidents, the head restraint and seatback may move backwards causing severe injuries. Dealers were notified to conduct this Ford Fusion Recall for 2010 model year vehicles that were manufactured between December 15, 2009 and February 3, 2010.
